STANDARD I
All teachers use technology-related terms, concepts, data input strategies, and ethical practices to make informed decisions about current technologies and their applications.
The PLN is an online collection of various digital resources that teachers can use in the general pursuit of educating their students. Researching and developing this artifact helped me gain a more comprehensive understanding of Texas history and the broad Education Standard I objectives associated with the selection, application, and ethical use of current technologies.
STANDARD II
All teachers identify task requirements, apply search strategies, and use current technology to efficiently acquire, analyze, and evaluate a variety of electronic information.
Web 2.0 tools are free, Internet-based programs and applications that allow users (teachers and students) to upload, modify, and share information on the World Wide Web. In the Screencast Assignment to the left, I share what I learned about Audacity and WordPress; a pair of Web 2.0 tools that approach content creation from two different perspectives. In doing so, I searched for, acquired, analyzed, and evaluated a variety of electronic information. All these steps helped to satisfy the criteria set forth in Education Standard II.
STANDARD iii
All teachers use task-appropriate tools to synthesize knowledge, create and modify solutions, and evaluate results in a way that supports the work of individuals and groups in problem-solving situations.
Although two distinctly different artifacts, the graphic organizer and infographic are both predicated upon the visual representation of facts, concepts, and data. In producing these items, I continued to enhance my knowledge of Texas history while simultaneously learning how to better manipulate common technologies, like Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Word. In application, these products meet the requirements of Education Standard III, which requires the teacher to synthesize knowledge in the creation of supports for students (both on individual and group-oriented bases).
STANDARD iv
All teachers communicate information in different formats and for diverse audiences.
The Subject Sampler and TEASe video are a pair of digital resources aimed at stimulating student interest in a specific topic. While they approach this this objective in two different ways, both artifacts meet Education Standard IV, which calls for all teachers to communicate with diverse student audiences in a variety of different formats. I learned a tremendous amount about different technologies while working on these assignments; particularly how to combine, edit, and present audio and video material in new and exciting configurations.
STANDARD V
All teachers know how to plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate instruction for all students that incorporates the effective use of current technology for teaching and integrating the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) into the curriculum.
Education Standard V calls for the teacher to organize and deliver technological instruction based upon curriculum requirements and TEKS. The Technology-Rich Unit Plan is an artifact designed and administered with these specific goals in mind. In producing this assignment, I continued to amplify my understanding of technology in education. Moreover, the cross-disciplinary nature of the assignment broadened my overall knowledge of geographic considerations associated with Texas history.
